Our logo was developed from the original Jerusalem Cross as it descended from the arms of the first Crusader Kings of Jerusalem. It was and is a symbol of the most holy of sanctuaries for Christians of that time. Of course now much of what was considered right and true about Crusading and Crusaders has been disassembled by historical fact. Yet in the minds of those peoples of that age of knighthood and chivalry the Jerusalem Cross was a symbol of triumph and of the Center of the World as it was known then. A beautiful symbol, The House of Allen-Hewlett has chosen it to represent all that is beautiful, good and spiritually connected to the Monastery Collection. Crosses have been used long before Christianity in almost every culture, especially by the Native Americans to represent the four corners of the world, the four compass points and the four paths towards the world of the Great Spirit. it also evokes the Age of Chivalry itself, when the Monastery was the seat of learning. Two great Monastic/Warrior orders came out of Jerusalem at that time. One was the Knights of St.John Hopitaller, or the Knights of Malta. The other was the famous Knights of the Temple, or Templars. Both of these groups paved the way for trade and commerce with the Muslim states around Jerusalem. they were the only two orders to be both religious and monastic, as well as chivalrous.
